On the way in to ERB's my dd said "I've done this before" to the tester. She had never done anything like it before at that point she didn't even know what it was she was saying she'd done. In the report it said she was familiar with the test. Anyway, it didn't hurt admissions at all. [ Reply | More ]

ITA. My DD's report said that she started some of the tasks before the tester could finish the instructions. She was not prepped and still did very well with exmissions. I asked PSD about the comment and PSD was not concerned in the least. [ Reply | More ]

Did the report reflect your dd's comment as well? It seems like if they're going to state in the report that she was familiar with the test, they should explain the basis for that statement. Were you mortified when your dd said that? I suppose there's no way to even address it without seeming like a jerk, no? [ Reply | More ]

I was really upset. We're a public school family so I had nowhere to turn. I never said or did anything about it. Her score was a 90. Yes, the tester quoted dd, but not even correctly actually. [ Reply | More ]

Depends on: 1) what's your Plan B (zoned for a good school?); 2) are there any "less desirable" privates in your list?; 3) are you connected anywhere?; 4) ERB score [ Reply | More ]

decent public school option (not excellent), not connected anywhere, don't have the ERB yet. I don't know if paying so much and putting dd in such a 'priviledged' and 'economically rich' environment is a good idea. Worried I may regret this decision if the public school lacks in academics and nurturing. [ Reply | More ]

Given how competitive admissions are, 8 schools isn't even enough for a 99x3 kid (unless you're fine with public). Foolish to pull applications for which you've already paid, imo. [ Reply | More ]

you just have to imagine it's mid february and you didn't get into the other four. you're looking at your zoned public. do you wish you could send dc to one of the other privates? then don't pull out. you might want to pull a few and then add a few you hadn't thought of in the first place? [ - ] I sah with a 6 month old. DH has been working a lot for the past several months. He's gone about 13 hours a day and often travels and is out of town for up to a week at a time. I know I have a good life and am so grateful not to have to go back to work, but I feel beaten at the end of the day very often. He often makes comments about how nice my day sounded, which of course it often is nice but also can be exhausting, especially with him gone. Don't know if I should bring this up with him. I feel silly because he's working so much in comparision. 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

He used to do the same thing to me, making comments about my life of leisure, etc., but this summer he went on gardening leave before starting a new job and then got a taste of what it's like. ITTTA with the previous two posts. Also, he really does need to get to know the baby, and with you, the expert, hanging around, he's not going to. The SAH life has much to recommend it, but it is RELENTLESS. IMO, that's the main reason it's such a drag. It's also pretty menial, too. Not much intellectual stimulation. [ Reply | More ]

It's possible that the homework is easier than the class work at CG. Also, keep in mind that the kids at most private schools are working in different levels. They have advanced groups for those that need it and easier work for kids that are slower. That is one of the luxuries of private school. They can have a kid in advanced reading, but slower math if appropriate. CG has many teachers and resources available. Not a CG parent BTW, but I know kids there. [ Reply | More ]
