talk to your ped. my daughter at that age would go for two or three days without pooping but then poop a massive load all at once - it was soft poop, it didn't hurt her. but if your kid is truly constipated, your ped will be able to reccommend something. also, i gave her high fiber veggies blended into bbyfood. [ - ] i'm pregnant with my third baby. my mother want to partially retire to help me with the kids. sadly, my mother drives me crazy. i don't even really like her very much. she is very high maintence, so even when she's an extra hand with the kids, she is also an additional person for me to tend to. i'm willing, most of the time, to put away my own distaste for her because A) she is my mother B) she is big hearted and full of love, even if she annoys the heck out of me and C) she loves my kids and they love her. However, I really can't face spending more time with her than i already do. Also, she is incredibly poor, has no health insurance and would rather quit one of her jobs (she has two part time jobs) to take care of my kids instead of taking care of her own needs first. what should i do? 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

They do sometimes use general. Quite often with sn kids. It has been recommended for my son (because of past medical trauma and his inability to cooperate even enough for nitrous or other sedation). We're trying to condition him so we can avoid the general, since he's had enough of that already and it would have to be done with a very competent anesthesiologist in a hospital. [ Reply | More ]

You never use general for dental work or oral surgery. General involves paralysis and requires an oral airway, endotracheal tube, etc. This makes general impractical for dental work. A combination of local or regional and sedation (with out without twilight) is more practical. [ Reply | More ]

What possible difference could formula make if the issue is with the bottle? IMO that is cuckoo advice. Have her caregiver try cup-feeding her. My DD went right to a sippy cup of breastmilk at 5 months old. If your db is old enough for solids, I assume she's old enough for a sippy. [ Reply | More ]

The unfortunate thing about the citywide schools is that they admit kids from all around the city, but that doesn't change the DOE rule that the buses don't cross county lines. There's no private bus service to Anderson from Queens. Some parents drive and some take the subway. [ Reply | More ]

Actually, I think a subway commute is pretty hard; however, from everything I've heard from other parents whose kids take the bus, all the kids seem fine with an hour plus bus ride. For example, the ride from downtown and all the way uptown to Anderson is over an hour on the public school bus and the kids are fine. There's some backlash against parents from other boroughs who do the same thing for some reason. [ Reply | More ]

What about the poor folks on Roosevelt Island? Zoned for Manhattan schools (and technically part of Manhattan), but they won't send school buses there because they have to cross borough lines to get to the RI Bridge. And NO TRAM next year. [ Reply | More ]

That is how all the kids from my nabe in Queens got to Bronx Science every day - we lived near the Throgs Neck Bridge - private mini van bus took about 25 minutes to school. Otherwise it was city bus to subway to Manhattan and change for subway up to the Bronx, which took about 2 hours. Parents arranged and paid for it - tons of kids from Queens at Science - and this was 30 years ago! [ Reply | More ]

Yup. Outer borough kids enrolled at Citywides are given Metrocards but many families prefer to shorten their commute by paying for alternate forms of transportation. Yellow buses from private companies do cost $3K to $6K a year. Express buses charge a 'step-up fee' of a few dollars on top of the Metrocard swipe (around $50 a week). Families that drive pay for gas, tolls etc. The city does pay for special ed kids to be bused for remediation (even across state lines). But DOE won't budge on citywide busing. In fact, they periodically try to eliminate busing for citywide kids across districts. But DOE buses private school kids...hmmmmmmm [ Reply | More ]

Why wouldn't they? They pay taxes just like everyone else. And the same rules apply as for public school kids, they will not bus kids from Queens to a private school in Manhattan either (unless SN perhaps). [ Reply | More ]

they have for a long time - since the early 80s I believe. No matter where the kids go to school, they are just as eligible for school bus service (parents pay taxes, city residents, etc.) In fact there's an argument, that kids who go to private school mean that many fewer kids that the DOE has to educate even though they are entitled to it. ^^^OR: The worst was one day I saw two nannies talking. A third nanny came along. Nanny #1 introduced #2 to #3 and they chatted together about 5 minutes. Then Nanny #1 and her kids left. About 5 minutes after that, Nanny #2 asked #3 to watch her "charge" while she ran to grab lunch. SHE HAD JUST MET HER!!! I was so astonished I stayed at the playground a bit longer to make sure she came back/ nothing happened -- even though I didn't know any of the kids involved or nannies. [ Reply | More ]

NP I trust my nanny after 3 rs & also know most of the nannies & kids she hangs w/ so I'd be fine. I have 3 kids & often benefit from the kindness of nannies who have onlies while min takes one to the bathroom. I love the nanny network & from what I hear it is cultural to just watch out for each others kids without question. That said, I totally respect those who aren't comfortable. [ Reply | More ]

I've very very sorry for your loss. I also had a m/c and was pg again soon after. Just curious if your Dr. did any genetic tests for you? My father had a deep vein thrombosis and turns out he has a genetic predisposition to form blood clots. I also inherited this full strength (turns out my mom was a carrier). I took heparin shots throughout my next pg to ward off any blood clots and DB is fine. When you see your Dr. next, you might ask if he/she go through your hx again to see if there is anything that might be checked out in advance. Take time to heal and take care of yourself. Wish you all the best. [ Reply | More ]
