toddlers tend to like a few things; evolutionary instinct is be wary of different foods. [ Reply | More ]

froman artcile in the times:Most children eat a wide variety of foods until they are around 2, when they suddenly stop. The phase can last until the child is 4 or 5. It's an evolutionary response, researchers believe. Toddlers' taste buds shut down at about the time they start walking, giving them more control over what they eat. ''If we just went running out of the cave as little cave babies and stuck anything in our mouths, that would have been potentially very dangerous,'' Dr. Cooke said. A natural skepticism of new foods is a healthy part of a child's development, said Ellyn Satter, a child nutrition expert whose books, including ''Child of Mine: Feeding With Love and Good Sense'' (Bull Publishing, 2000), have developed a cult following among parents of picky eaters. Each child has a unique set of likes and dislikes that Ms. Satter believes are genetically determined. The only way children discover what they are is by putting food in their mouths and taking it out over and over again, she said. [ Reply | More ]

I don't imagine that it can...but I also wonder what kind of fatty deposit would leak a brownish liquid...that's strange. If it wasn't there 2 days ago, though, I'd really doubt it was cancer. You're doing the right thing by having it checked out, but I wouldn't worry too much. When you squeezed and the liquid came out, did it seem to hurt him? Just think about how varied parenting practices are in the USA and you'll realize that you can't really determine how someone will parent based on the "culture" of their nation of origin. [ Reply | More ]

It will (eventually) get better -- agree that wine and KY (or something) will help. :) DH and I also started making out, but not having sex -- and that was sort of fun (for me at least!). I'd say that we have a good sex life now (DC are 1 and 3), but it's less frequent -- we're both interested, but we're tired! (We both work FT, #2 doesn't really sleep through the night, and #1 is up at the crack of dawn.) [ Reply | More ]

Sex hurt the entire pregnancy for me. It wasn't unbearable, but it was definitely uncomfortable. 6 weeks post partum (vaginal birth with no tearing) and everything was as great as ever. So don't worry! [ Reply | More ]

When I was bf, I had no interest. My body felt off-limits for sex. A few months after I weaned, it was much, much better. [ Reply | More ]

I think it's the breastfeeding that makes it uncomfortable (as I had a C-section for #2 and at 8 months post-partum it still hurts a bit) but it definitely gets better after a year, as I learned after #1. Hang in there! [ Reply | More ]

I felt the same way--like knives were stabbing me during the beginning of sex. Did you have an episiotomy? I had a minor one, but it took a long time to heal. I found a water bottle with some Epsom salt in it very helpful--just spray it on after you pee and pat dry. I was fine in 2 weeks (I was 7 mos. post partum by then and desperate for the pain to go away.) GL [ Reply | More ]

Very good IMO. The kids I know who graduate go to pretty amazing schools and they receive an excellent education. The only hard part is the small grade size. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Question about the so-called "tuition gap" at private schools: does it really exist? If so, why are for-profit schools able to offer the same or lower tuition? Presumably they're not taking a loss on each student. 21 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Not true - some pay less, some pay the same, some pay more, all have better benefits and treat teachers better thus have much less turn over than most publics [ Reply | More ]

i did a response to another post that did the math on 30 kindergarten kids X 35k equals $1,050,000. that should cover the cost of providing paints for the children. you could hire 6 teachers at $100 k and still have 400k left over. i know the gap must include larger finances but still. let's start a charter school... most private schools used to charge significantly less for lower school for exactly this reason. now they almost all have a uniform tuition for k-12, which means your K tuition is helping to pay for the upper school science labs, state of the art performing arts theater, varsity teams etc. [ Reply | More ]

But financial aid is a different issue. If they said they needed 5K per family for the financial aid fund, that would be one thing. But they're saying that tuition doesn't cover the expense of educating that particular child, which seems like bull. [ Reply | More ]
