My dd is in perhaps in the 60-70th percentile. One thing that is good is that she's learned to work very hard. just wanted to see if anyone had any expertise in this arena - child development and divorce - not just a curt "get it overwith" piece of advice. [ Reply | More ]

that is not curt advice, from a child development stand point, they will not really remember any other way, you said it was inevitable and I am saying that if that is the case, you should do it sooner than later because they will grow up understanding that mom and dad have different lives rather than having to learn that half-way through [ Reply | More ]

No clue. But I would say before the blow out fights occur in front of the children. [ Reply | More ]

I don't think there is an "optimal time" for something like that, I do agree that you should do it now rather than put them through years of fighting and heart-break [ Reply | More ]

Worth talking to a child psychologist (or your children's teachers?) for better info but I will say as child of divorce (parents sep. when I was 2) I had a MUCH MUCH easier time than most of my friends whose parents split at later ages. I will also add that my parents were very civil to each other and even became friendly as the years went out (not like BUDDIES but pleasant and gracious) and again, that was HUGE HUGE help for me vs. my friends parents who were fighting over child support and screaming at each other and using their children as pawns.
