Taryn Rose shoes are ALL very supportive. Taryn Rose is an orthopedic surgeon/shoe designer. I had plantar fascitis when 8 mos pg with #2. [ - ] Anyone on tonight by any chance have DS at Camp W in NH? I'm trying to find out a few things. They've cut lots of special programs and virtually no staff are returning this year, yet tuition is almost at 10K. What is going on over there? Are other camps also feeling the recession? 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I work at a day camp in Westchester and, from what I've heard, the economy/recession has hit the entire industry. Some camps raised tuition this year, others didn't...but in the end, most followed the same patterns of enrollment (and everyone reported that full enrollment came much, much later this year). Camp staff generally goes in "cycles" and even the long-timers move-on at one point or another (especially at sleepaway camp, b/c it's hard to put your life on "hold" for 8+ weeks). [ Reply | More ]

yeah - but i've heard from ds' counselor who i've kept in touch with that staff want to come back but camp doesn't have money to hire them, no equestrian, or ice hockey..this camp is a stretch on us already - we're seriously thinking of doing day camp or cheaper sleepaway, we're paying more for less! and honestly its not even THAT great. I don't know anything about this camp in particular, so who knows what's going on? If it's not that great and you feel as though DS would be just as happy elsewhere, shop around and see what else is out there. Are these programs part of why you chose the camp? We're not booking a magic show, but I can't imagine that we'll get very many complaints about that (no one chooses our program for this 1 special event)...and it's going to save us a lot. Also keep in mind that DS's counselor might not know the whole story about the staff...maybe they want to return, but the directors don't want them (for whatever reason) and this is the "excuse" that they're using. I think camps must all be suffering. My parents' country club just added a whole kids playground, etc. b/c a lot of the people aren't doing summer camp this year. These people used to send their kids to $$$$ sleepaways. My kids are too young, but I was laid off so I probably would find a 2-4 week option and just watch my kids this summer to save money.
