Because we were changing dd non-stop, we stocked puppy wee wee pads in several places so that we didn't have to run back to the changing table every 30 minutes. Since babies pee/poop at any second, the pads were very handy at catching the errant squirt. Also, we used a lot of the little Gerber flannel receiving blankets as burp cloths - always have something to cover on your shoulder!!! [ Reply | More ]

scratch mittens, wrap around shirts so not to go over their heads, A&D ointment is great (Destin is too creamy)... I loved the hospital blankets best to swaddle (then miracle blankets)... nursing covers when people come over so you can nurse and not go hide in some room or use a blanket... winter baby - I liked wipe warmers (had a portable one for the living room). I made a basket of diapers and stuff so I had one in every room in case... Boppy is the best as well... Also nursing bras/tanks and comfy pj bottoms/sweats. We would like to ease her out of this habit and back to her crib. We've tried CIO several times and it is not for us. Is 21mo too young for a toddler bed? We've thought of trying that....Any other suggestions would be appreciated 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

i don't think too young for toddler bed but that makes it a lot easier for her to come into your bed since she can get up on her own. We dealt with this after putting 2.5 yo in a bed - she was a great sleeper before that. Eventually just let her stand in our room crying while we just sat on the floor - it was rough (FWIW, we never did CIO with her) but after one really bad night she stopped even asking to come into our bed. Yes I respect that. I do not have twins. I'm sorry I misunderstood the question and didn't mean to sound so snarky in my response. [ Reply | More ]

we have that and it's confirmed. One dc has global delays. Twins are still individuals, so of course they will have differing abilities of some kind. [ Reply | More ]

i would not say delay. ds is better in some fields that dd is not (music, sports, etc). but dd is much, much quickier mentally. what has been your experience? thanks [ Reply | More ]

my experience is same. one has strenghths in some stuff, another has interests that run a different course. one is definitely "smarter" than the other, but that doesn't mean the other doesn't have gifts that have yet to be discovered. [ Reply | More ]

how old are they now? how much smarter? for example do you think one would always be behind academically, or hard work would bring them closer? [ Reply | More ]

just turned 3, and no, i don't think the other one will ever "catch up" to the other. Doesn't mean we won't continue to push the one and work hard, and doesn't mean I would ever in a million years acknowledge that to the kids. In my case, though, our dc has been working with therapists for awhile, so it's not just an inkling. [ Reply | More ]

I am not a mother of twins, but a developmental clinician. I can totally attest to DSs being slower on the cognitive/language development curve than DD. And DD being slower on the physical development curve. Generally girls and boys reach parity when they get to 9 or 10. [ Reply | More ]

so, for example. dd at 3yo knows numbers, letters, etc. is quickier at understanding games. ds at 3yo cannot recognize more than 2 or 3 numbers. i do not train them so much, but whenever we play i notice it. ds has a very good musical instinc, though. normal? [ Reply | More ]

Absolutely 100% normal. Very typical. With twins though, DS will most likely attempt to forge a different identity to differentiate from sister, which may make these cognitive differences seem more pronounced, but it's nothing to be concerned about. Put them on the soccer field and then you'll see DS's developmental strengths. [ Reply | More ]

thanks again. and you are right. ds can play forever with a tennis racket. dd does not hit the ball once. but with numbers... things are very different [ Reply | More ]

My two dcs are 22m apart and it was a lot easier going from 1 to 2 than I expected (#1 was a tough baby and #2 was a dream). Things do seem to sort themselves out somehow. GL [ Reply | More ]

newborn is "lost" in a convertible. i think it is too big and bulky. buy a cheap graco infant carseat and change to another one when baby is around 8-10mo. [ Reply | More ]

you CAN use a convertible one from birth, but I recommend buying a regular one because it can be easily removed and carried around. We've used it as another place to put DB. Also, if DB is asleep in the car, you don't have to wake him up to move him once you're home; you can just detach the carseat and go. [ Reply | More ]

I liked being able to move db about in carseat from house to car to snap n go stroller. But, db is pretty small and was able to use the regular carseat for a long time (until 10 mos age). [ Reply | More ]
