[ - ] Anyone in the Princeton area? What is the commute from Princeton Junction to NYC actually like on a daily basis? Are there delays a lot? What are the West Windsor and East Windsor school districts like? 1 Reply [ Reply | Watch | More ]

It's a long commute from Princeton. I live on the same train line (NE Corridor), but closer to the city (Metuchen). It takes me 75-90 minutes door-to-door (but I work on the East side). The issue with the NE Corridor line is that NJ Transit shares the tracks with Amtrak trains running to DC and Philly and Amtrak gets priority because they own the tracks. So you get delays from that, in addition to the usual NJ Transit incompetence. Lately Amtrak has been making track repairs and there have been lots of major delays as a result of that. Spill it. How much is too much? What did you weigh to start and how much have you gained? I won't judge you, but the safety of WW or any other diet program while pg. depends on your answers. [ Reply | More ]

It really depends where you started. With my first I had gained 20 pounds by 20 weeks, but frankly I wasn't overeating AT ALL, and I was a pretty skinny person to start. So its what my body needed to do. if you started out truly overweight and you're up 23 pounds already, then talk to your doctor. otherwise, just take a deep breath and know that it won't take you a year. i promise. I gained over 20 lbs by 5 mos and am now up 30 lbs at 8 mos. It distresses me that I'll have a baby and have likely gained 40 lbs but not enough to diet. My OB had a baby earlier this year and gained over 50 and lost 40 of it w/in 3 months. I agree with the other posters that let your body do what it needs to do. [ Reply | More ]

You can definitely get snowsuits for newborns. I had a fleece one from Lands End. But you have to be careful not to bundle them up too much, because they can overheat. [ Reply | More ]

I think Land's End has a great snowsuit for really little guys. My first was born in April, so I know that's older, but I used a snowsuit for the really freezing, snowy days his first winter. But most days I put him in a warm polor fleece jacket, hat and mittens, and the fleece bundle me and he was toasty. [ Reply | More ]

My dd was born in January. The stroller with the Bundle me is the best. If you take him in the Bjorn, you can either zip him under your coat (in his own jacket and warm pants) or you can buy a bunting -- which is basically a snowsuit. Check LL Bean or Land's End. My sister bought one for me and I think I used it 3 times -- it just wasn't all that cold! [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] WOHM's, how do you handle homework (I'm assuming dad WOH also)? next year my older child will have a weekly packet and the teacher is telling us not to plan on doing it all over the weekend. do you have sitter supervise, use school homework help, do it when you get home? 11 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I think it all depends. If your sitter can supervise, fine. If not, then if your child's school offers afterschool where kids can get their homework done, that might be a good idea. That too will depend on how it's structured though. If the homework will only take 15 minutes then what would your child do for the rest of the afterschool class time? [ Reply | More ]

It all depends on the kid. If your dc is motivated/responsible about HW, and will do it at home, great. You can go over it later. If it will be a battle everyday for your dc to do it, then opt for a more structured setting. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] How do you deal with drop-off playdates? My 4.5 yo recently went to a camp friend's apt after camp. I don't know the family very well, but the kids are in camp and school together. When I picked him up, the kids opened the door on their own. The mom was locked in her room and a housekeeper was around but basically mopping and cleaning. The kids were drinking coke out of sippy cups, and Oprah was on in the boy's room (they weren't watching it, but it was on while they played). It made me wonder if either ds is too young to go on his own or I should be more selective about where I send him. Should I let him go on his own only if I know the family very well? I was very clearly not invited to come with him. 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Mexico doesn't smell any worse than Manhattan in August. Ugh, the smell of garbage and urine in the heat during the 1st trimester .... ugh. [ Reply | More ]

I had to take a business trip to Asia during my 1st trimester and I was puking like a dog, especially when confronted with ethnic food smells. I lived on rice and ginger tea for 3 weeks. [ Reply | More ]

I wouldn't travel anywhere in my 1st trimester because I am sick the whole time. I think the 2nd is the best time to travel. Early 3rd, maybe. [ Reply | More ]

I traveled to Mexico when I was about 4 months pregnant and again when I was about 7 months pregnant with my second child. Never had a problem. I would say try to avoid traveling the first trimester. [ Reply | More ]

I am actually IN Boerum Hill, but closer to Park Slope than Cobble Hill, so therefore much closer to good transportation, while still being within a reasonable walk of both neighborhoods [ Reply | More ]

Is it the down payment or the monthly that is the tough part for you? We struggled really hard to save extra and bought a two family instead of a condo/co-op. The extra income makes it much easier to carry the bigger note. And the way I figure it, by retirement age, the apt will cover the mortgage. [ Reply | More ]
