I've heard that schools overlook a lower score on one section, but not more. That said, I've also heard that matrix reasoning is one of the more reliable indicators of intelligence (as opposed to, say, coding). [ Reply | More ]

if overall score is high i doubt it matters at all. when they talk of "spread" i think they mean the difference between verbal and performance. i think the erb is ridiculous, btw. the wppsii, when used correctly, can be a useful tool. the erb, for admissions, silly. especially now with all the "prep" etc. also lots of the erb testers aren't very good, so they don't get the best out of all the kids. i know two really smart kids who bombed the erb (or parts of the erb, which brought down full score) and did great on sb. mine only took erb, did well, and still i think it's a crock. Something is up with that subtest, IME. At least, years ago ds bombed it badly, like under 70 ... then went on to get 99+ on the apparently corresponding section ("fluid reasoning") on the SB. I don't know if it's a subtest that's very susceptible to developmental lags? Or maybe all the sections are, but otherwise his score was great on both tests. [ Reply | More ]

I was never able to get a handle on what that section tested, but don't worry about one bombed subtest. The subtests are only a few minutes long apiece, so if DC spaced out for a few minutes, he could do poorly on one of them. [ Reply | More ]

We basically had to force feed him with a bottle until about 2 months of age when he finally got strong enough to breastfeed. He also had acid reflux so would scream every time he fed also until about 2 months of age when we got his medication sorted out. Now he breastfeeds fine but freaks out the second we even put him in position to bottle feed. Show him the bottle and you get a 30 minute screaming jag. How do we get him to bottle feed peacefully? OP here. Just to clarify - I will not throw her out of the house if she has the baby. I will have to suck it up and deal with helping her raise the baby. As much as I'm against the idea, I don't want to lose my daughter. Because if I were to kick her out one of two things would happen - she does very well, raises the baby and hates me for the rest of her life or she doesn't do well and has a miserable life hating me even more. I can't stand the idea of either. I will demand that she make up a detailed plan how she intends to raise this child (finances, childcare, her own school/college plans, etc.) I will also insist she works and goes to school. what is the age spread between the kids? you'd be surprised how much social growing kids do through play. that's what preschool is for. Regardless of maturity, all kids are different and your child will learn how to be in a group with people outside of his family. Leave it be. Trust me as someone who had tunnel vision and worried about such things when my first was that age. [ Reply | More ]

I would wait until parent teacher conferences. It should be coming up. Discuss your concerns. Are you there the entire time? Maybe dc is engaged by teachers, maybe dc serves as a leader in the class, maybe the next class up would be too overwhelming. Just a bunch of maybes, I know but there is sometimes another side to consider. The teachers should be able to help but try and give it to the meeting if you can. A request coming from you might not be as quickly addressed as a reuest coming from the teachers. [ Reply | More ]

i love the preschool, and the philosophy but i'm not crazy about the teacher. i like warm fuzzy for preschool and she's just not. also, she's pretty strict about things, like getting parents out the door fast, and that bugs me. ds's teacher last year was really loving, and the room had an informal feeling that made it a joy for me and my child. this year, not so much.
