[ - ] Following up on the thread about fc versus top three. My psd says the ongoings never ask her about the donor potential of applicants' parents and she doesn't offer the info. Do you think she's an anomaly and most psds and ongoings are freely sharing/seeking this information? 23 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

of course she will say this if asked. truth is, you sign away your rights to be privy to the discussions, and the general view is that donations count. I think the ISAAGNY form asks about "involvement." so I think it is fair to assume they are dicussing this [ Reply | More ]

Perhaps but PSD directors will advocate harder for families who are most generous or involved. She will also communicate what a "committed" =$$$ and/or "involved"=big volunteer family you are. Other info can come up. I just finished chairing an event at dd's preschool and DOA at more than one school asked me how it had gone even though I had not mentioned it. I used to work in admissions at a NYC private and PEDs do communicate this stuff, some of them in subtle and discreet ways and some very overtly. FWIW, when it comes down to WLs, you better believe that "commited" and "involved" parents get kids off the lists at a higher rate than those who are not. [ Reply | More ]

Because there are plenty of people who used to work in private school admissions on who have kids in these schools or applying to them. Frankly, the amount of misinformation out there from people who quote their PSD as the it is law is awful. This preschool director may not do it but many do and frankly the schools want to know what they are getting as far as parents go since they are making in many cases a 13 year commitment to living with the parents. Also, to say parental involvement and volunteering is not helpful is ridiculous. This is something that PSD will go out of their way to mention. $$$ can be determined by the application, address, connections... But volunteerism is valuable to the school and can only be communicated by a psd. If I am outed I am outed but I do not think i have said something that would bother or shock any DOA. OP: So it sounds like my psd has the wrong end of the stick completely and is possibly doing her applicants a disservice by believing that volunteering means nothing to the ongoings. I imagine this translates into her not really playing it up in the school report or in calls from the ongoings soliciting feedback. I can believe this. Too bad for us, I guess, since I actively volunteer (and we're not too shabby on the donation front either) but oh well. [ Reply | More ]

On almost every school tour we were on last year - DH would see well known money/ finance types. It left me feeling somewhat discouraged that we would be measured against these real money types (in terms of donation potential). We volunteered lots of time and energy at PS but no $$ donations. In the end, DC was admitted to a few great places at the top of our list. I don't think the lack of donating at PS hurt DC's chances, but I am not sure volunteering tipped the scales in DC's favor. IMO playdate was single biggest factor, followed by PS report and ERBs (and for schools with parent interviews, didn't hurt that we are pretty normal/low-key). [ Reply | More ]

there was a cec meeting earlier in the week. i couldn't attend. if you check the villager on-line next week there will probably be some news about it. but yes, one plan is to send the overflow from 41, 3 and 116 to 11 or to rezone so that those schools have equal numbers of dcs (and take away wv'ers choice between 41 and 3). other than assigning people to 3 or 41 based on proximity, i don't think it will happen. the outcry would make the 199 kerfuffle look like kid's stuff. but you never know. and it would be silly to re-zone before the foundling hospital is on-line. but you never know. as someone who lives in the 41/3 zone, people would be much more up in arms about being sent to 116 or 11 as overflow (which could be 30+ blocks away) more than being rezoned on proximity. if they do rezone, 3 is going to lose a lot of its progressive leanings. there is already a huge difference in the student body between the younger grades and older grades. i also live in the zone, and my point was that they may try to re-zone the whole area, so that some who live in 41/3 zone wind up at 11, etc. and no one at 41 would willingly send dc to 11 gen ed. ita that 3 is losing its progressive vibe and there's not a whole lot of difference in philosophy at the two schools these. In our case we finally settled on doing what we could to support our hoarders but keeping some distance - if we were too insistent they got pretty agitated and we would beck off before reaching a point where they become so alienated that we couldn't do anythin for them. I think medication would have helped but they were very suspicious of doctors and wouldn't agree to it. [ Reply | More ]

you need to pump like crazy. Do you have a double electric? Just set it up this weekend and pump for 5 minutes every time you think about it all weekend. Just pump and save and pump and save. This will increase your production. It is the perfect supply and demand system. The more that comes out, the more your body makes. Drink water, rest, relax, nurse your baby on demand and when he's done eating pump for 5, and then in 1/2 an hour pump for 5 again - then you will have a stash and increase your supply. I suggest a LC to help you out. [ Reply | More ]

These e-vites are interesting. I've noticed that EVERYONE responds to the celebrity parent e-vite for the childs' birthday. But Joe the Plumber's son's e-vite--- 50/50 response rate. Don't let it bother you, assume a few more show, a few drop.. life is too short to sweat the final party count. [ Reply | More ]
