well that could happen. but she's been getting coaching before these past interviews and she couldn't retain the info or put together a coherent sentence. she was looking at notes and couldn't get it together. she may do ok. i'm sure biden is being prepped to. he has to walk the line of not being seen as aggressive. go after bush, mccain but not attack palin. if he just follows that and let's palin dig her own hole he'll do fine. not. they are both very academic and they are both very proud of themselves. neither is smug. your daughter would be lucky to go to either school. [ Reply | More ]

Don't worry. Even if you did apply for her, her odds of getting into either are very, very slim. [ Reply | More ]

I don't know that Brearley itself is more smug. The mothers, however, are definitely more smug--both irl AND on UB. [ Reply | More ]

1. college placements are based on alot more than academic rigor. They have similar placements because they take the same type of students, some of the most promising and/or some of the most connected. The biggest difference we saw between B and S was the social scene. S like C has a social element that the other schools have to a lesser degree...from my reference point. [ Reply | More ]

np My dd is at Spence (in lower school). I don't notice this famous "social scene" to which you refer--and honestly don't see how simply by touring B, S and C you'd notice any difference, either. [ Reply | More ]

What does college placement have to do with this? Average Brearley grad is way more academic than the people I studied with at Yale! If anything real academic types are not as obsessed with college tiers as are those who see college more as a status symbol. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Is my husband being emotionally abusive, or am I losing my mind? We have a two-month-old baby, and he hasn't treated me the same since then. Every second or third day, he makes a comment out of nowhere like, "You held her the wrong way!" or "You're ignoring her!" when I set her down when he thinks I should be holding her. Or else he'll just snap at me when I ask him some random question. Then I'll ask why he's snapping at me and what is wrong... He then gives me long lists, but the basic gist is always: 8 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Hit enter too soon. The basic gist is always: 1. I don't do enough housework. 2. I am selfish for wanting to have time to myself. 3. I am spoiled. 4. He does so much more than I do. 5. He then lists everything he's done (which hurts, because I always thought he did things for me out of love, but now I feel like he does things to make me feel guilty about it later) like painting our home or making dinner for us 6. He says he feels like he has to be my parent and I'm a kid (even though he can't pinpoint anything bad I've actually done, and even though I contribute a lot to the household, though he says I don't) 7) He calls my plans, wants, and ideas stupid. I wanted to get new blinds, which we have the money for. He says that makes me an asshole for wanting to replace something that's not broken! I want to try to start a business. I'm a selfish jerk for wanting to utilize any time in a non-baby way! I say I'm frustrated by something he's said, and he claims I am not! I always end up a crying mess, and then he yells at me to stop being inappropriate in front of the baby. btw, he usually starts these fights when I'm holding our baby. [ Reply | More ]

But I clean up our place every day, do almost all of the baby care, am the only one to get up to take care of her at night, and always tell him how much I love him, how attracted to him I am, and what a good dad he is. [ Reply | More ]

I think he is abusive. Do you have a friend, relative, therapist who could talk to him about the challenges for the mom having a newborn? I think HE has not adjusted yet to you being a mom and him being a dad with a new set of responsibilities. My dh was pretty nasty when I had our baby. One day he came home around lunch time ( I was not even expecting him) and when he realized, that I had not prepared lunch for him, he snapped at me: "Not even that you can manage." It is better now. Girl that is emotional abuse. I was in a relationship like this for 4 yrs and you need to nip in the bud. He is the insecure one, HE is the one with the issues and the only way he knows how to make himself feel better is by throwing stones at you. YOU need to stand up for youself. DON'T back down and grow a set of iron balls. I know it's hard do to BUT I promise you once you realize that you love yourself too much for this shit, you will not put up with it. He isn't your oxygen, he isn't god's gift to you, you are the best thing for you. GL and I hope things change [ Reply | More ]

I'm not condoning his actions (boy, they are pretty bad). But two questions: Was he this critical before the baby came? He may be having a hard time adjusting to being a Dad. Does he feel stressed at work? He may be taking his problems out on you. Again, I'm not condoning his behavior. Just trying to understand it. [ Reply | More ]

it's sounds like he's being abusive, but it's hard to say without hearing his side of the story. he may be tired and stressed. you may be reading too much into his comments. you sound a bit like a martyr, but again, it's hard to say without knowing you. i would tell him that you do not need notes or lists and that his comments are making you feel unhappy. This morning I'm a lot calmer. So, first, yes, this is our first baby, and he is stressed because of that. He was never like this before. Second, I don't want to put myself in some weird martyr position or to act like I am a martyr, so this morning when he started apologizing for upsetting me last night (he does definitely apologize after the fact), I said we should try going to a counselor... and he said that would be okay! I'm very relieved that he seems to think it's a good idea and that it would help us. [ Reply | More ]

The Children's Aid Society Philip Coltoff Center down on Sullivan is renting out their brand new indoor play gym for birthday parties on the weekends....it's a very nice space for the kids to play. They take care of the food and cupcakes, and will do an activity and read a book with the kids upstairs in a classroom after they are done playing in the gym. [ Reply | More ]
