[ - ] Anyone on who has only one child and is contemplating another? I am just starting to think of another, and I REALLY wasn't even sure about having the first. The whole time I've had her, I've thought never again, even though she's great, I love her, we have a great relationship, etc. But motherhood has taken so much out of me, I can't imagine doing it again. 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

i'm not telling you what to do but i can say that as my kids get older, there's a change in what i put into them. on the one hand, "little children little problems; big children, big problems" is definitely true. OTOH, in terms of just what the kids take out of me, that really lessens as they get older. so in some ways, it has gotten much easier. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, and at one school I submitted the application online and accidently left DH's elementary school blank because I couldn't remember the name of the public out-of-state school he went to and I hit "SUBMIT" before asking DH and the DOA at the school point-blank asked us about it during the interview. DH (a funny guy) told some far fetched story which broke the ice, but I can't believe they care. Obviously, it was not an NYC ongoing school or we certainly would have filled it in. [ Reply | More ]

I think so, but I don't think they really care what you say unless it is directly relevant (i.e., unless DC is a legacy there or elsewhere). Info re college helps them put the family in context. If neither parent went to college (or a good college) yet DC is very verbal, precocious, etc. - that says something good about the parents. Don't read too much into the application form. DC is going to a school where I left out the "optional" photo because it was close to the deadline and I had run out. [ Reply | More ]

Some people get tutors to help dcs who are behind, some to enrich and challenge dcs. Don't know anyone who has tutors to help do dc's homework. We got a tutor to prep both dcs for middle and high school (both for test-taking, entrance exams, etc. and for supplementing what they were getting in school). Now that they thank god both got in to great schools and we feel they are well prepared, we are stopping with the tutor. It was a wonderful luxury and kids will miss her, but we think they need to know they can be OK on their own. [ Reply | More ]

Almost everyone gets their kids prepped for specialized high school test and Hunter test. In elementary school, it used to be just kids who are having problems get tutored. But now a lot of parents are sending their kids to Kumon even at schools like Anderson because the new DOE curriculum doesnt' teach the basics. Parents say that their kids can't write a grammatical sentence or do basic math, so they're going to Kumon. [ Reply | More ]
