Oy vey I have a baby named Claire and just a warning- I cannot believe how popular it is now....its shooting up the ranks on the social security list. Its a family name for us which made it that much more shocking for me to have so many other Claires around in the baby classes. [ Reply | More ]

ding ding ding! the idea that privates really screen out the bad eggs is just ludicrous. who believes that? these people are good actors. they know how to handle themselves publicly, they are pros at politics and getting what they want in the world. [ Reply | More ]

Where are so many mean kids? I don't get it. I've seen a few after a few years at our tt. But, a couple of these mean kids seem to have changed nicely over the years. For the past couple of years, my dc haven't noticed any mean kids at school. What are you talking about? [ Reply | More ]

I just don't believe people are static. For whatever reason, people change. I know bec I've seen my family and friends change. I know I have changed. There are seasons in life that sucks and you're more irritable. I'm sure there are nasty people whose kids get accepted to privates no doubt, but I'm only making a point here that people do change. agree. she is talking about something else. people may drop to some more base level under stress, but people are basically who they are by this stage of life. anyway, its sort of splitting hairs. many people are powerful and difficult in this city, and their kids by and large attend nyc privates. to think that everyone who makes it past the screening process is some sort of super nice family is not rational. perhaps the people posting this stuff have young dcs, are unconnected and naive and still believe in fairies. these schools can be complicated on many levels, and the bright eyed newbies have some growing up to do. Well, that's not what I said at all. But i still do believe that people do and can change... maybe rare? I don't know. But I've seen senior citizens radically change from extremely evil to good. I do think privates do try to screen out anyone who's so obviously PITA during the interview/tour, but that's only a short period of time and they can't really see what the parents are going to be like. Doesn't make the parents at privates good people, no, but people who act truly crazy and totally unaware of it are screened out unless the school needs their money (they'd better be very very rich). Senior citizens aren't parents in private schools for the most part. The early stages of dementia can really take the edge off someone's personality. [ Reply | More ]

It's not dementia! I am only making a point that people change all the time... maybe not the ones you know but I have witnessed good people (my age) turn bad and bad people turn good and I'm sure I only see a small part of their lives so it's not even fair to call people good or bad, but.. talk about digressing. I think OP was just saying that all kinds of people make up the populations of these schools, that the screening process allows for a broad range, and that the range includes powerful or not so powerful not so nice people. i don't think it really had to do with the possibility of change in humans, elderly people or dementia. As the parent of a dc attending citywide (with a pretty substantial commute between home & school), there is definitely a social component that is missing in my dc's life right now. I know dc socializes just fine at school. But there is a lot to be said for being able to socialize with your classmates who live in the neighborhood. We are really missing that right now. I don't regret our choice for many reasons. But I did not fully appreciate how hard it would be socially speaking to commute to school at such a young age. [ Reply | More ]

Do you live near a park? Do you have a sled? Do you know how to build a snow fort or snowman? Have you taught your child how to do flying angels, or just romp around in the snow? [ - ] wow. just read that exchange from last night about mean 8 y/o. I would be angry if my child was discussed here, but an 8 y/o that makes a slam book or anything like it really does need help. and even if the incident is blown out of proportion, to that mom, you need to nip this in the bud now b/c it will come back eventually to bite your child. my bff from the time we were 3 was like this. she was just mean to girls in elementary, jhs and hs (think blair waldorf from gossip girl). she did it b/c she was the 3rd, forgotten child in her family and she was screaming for attention. well, unfortunately for her, she went to a college with even meaner girls and she got her own, and it straightened her right out. so to that mom, if your dd is doing mean things, even if small, trust me from someone who has gone through this and seen the consequences, eventually your dd will be the victim. and to the mom of the other litle girl, you do what you need to do to protect your child but don't make her the victim - teach her to just walk away. trust me, nothing angered my friend more than girls that ignored her. 24 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Not that mom. You're probably the mother of the mean kid. If I recognized my child in a post about a truly mean (slam book at 8 yo?!?) kid, I'd take it as a wake-up call. Then again, my dd wouldn't do that sort of thing, so maybe it's about parenting. [ Reply | More ]

if already in daycare, i don't thin 2s program is necessary - esp since most are only couple of morning ea week. 2.2 is not old enough for most 2s programs anyway - most start at 2.6-2.9 w a few that start at 2.3 or 2.4yo. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] OPINIONS about Clomid or diet: I am about 20 pounds overweight, 10 of it is from being PG and losing the baby at the start of the 2nd Tri. My doc wants me to start Clomid this coming cycle (like 2-3 weeks). I heard Clomid can cause weight gain. Do I take a cycle off and try to lose weight (which I am not good at) or do I just start the Clomid at this next cycle? I am worried about because when PG you can't diet. DH wants me to start the Clomid asap. We really want a child. I am 32, he is 35. 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I m/c'd around 8wks but it made us realize how much we wanted #2 so we just went ahead and concentrated on the pregnancy and after #2 I have now lost all of the weight (the weight i gained with #2 and the 10 lbs i never lost from #1).
