At your ages, you are both old enough to know what you want in a relationship and if you will be able to make it work. Of course time spent together is important but to put yourself through a medical procedure to freeze eggs to 'buy' that extra time is just crazy to me. Your eggs aren't going to decline in quality THAT much in the next 2 yrs. And if your eggs already aren't 'good' now they probably won't survive the artificial manipulation they'd go through anyway. If you can afford to do IVF when you don't need to, then you can afford to be a sahm now too. [ Reply | More ]

Yes. For either physiological or hormonal reasons, a pregnancy would not be sustainable. [ Reply | More ]

If they damage the ovary or uterus during egg harvest, you can become incapable of sustaining a pregnancy. [ Reply | More ]

NP: Yikes! What are the odds for this happening for each time harvesting? [ Reply | More ]

The overall odds don't really matter. You want to ask your doctor about their complication rate. [ Reply | More ]

^note that I do agree with you about the ethical problem with this scenario. But then again, shouldn't we take advantage of modern-day technology; seems like there are lots of other examples of this. [ Reply | More ]

No, we should not take advantage of modern-day technology for the sake of it. Doctors can do hand transplants. They don't because the risks are so high relative to the potential benefit. There are risks to IVF and you have to use prudence. [ Reply | More ]

but for IVF I think the risk is not that great and in this case the benefit might be very significant to OP. Sure there are risks but there are risks with pregnancy in general. and years of research show IVF is generally safe. [ Reply | More ]

Everyone knows plenty of doctors who will give you a c-section for any reason. But it really isn't that common. And why would a doctor give a c-section to accommodate their vacations schedule? As opposed to inducing? [ Reply | More ]

Me bad. I meant inducing but then that means a higher chance for a c-section--this is what happened with various friends. [ Reply | More ]

They have terrible doctors and should find someone else. The ACOG does not condone this as it exposes the mother and the baby to unnecessary risks. And for what? So the doctor doesn't have to share his fee in case the mom goes into labor while he's in St. Maarten? [ Reply | More ]

This is not uncommon practice now and it is sanctioned by medical ethics boards...research it before you make sweeping ignorant comments. [ Reply | More ]

Go for it. I don't see why a dr. wouldn't do. I have a girlfriend who did it at 30 at her dr.'s suggestion. [ Reply | More ]

To the OP - don't listen to the judgers...you can definitely find MANY doctors to do this, assuming you are in an urban area. I just read a long article about a woman who did this in Self or Women's Health...you have to do what you have to do and that is whatever is right for you. I was married for 5 years before children and it was the best time. I think that people who marry and have children right away are generally just going through the motions and my biased opinion is that it is generally those people who are more unhappy once the kids come and are toddlers, because they don't have as strong of a foundation with the marriage itself... ^^ also, forgot to add that at a minimum, you should go see an RE and do some preliminary testing to determine your ovarian functioning and reserves...they can tell you this with blood testing at various points in your cycle and with vaginal ultrasound at certain times of the months. The outcome of those tests / that info. may influence your decision... [ Reply | More ]
