I use Kessler and love him. Edersheim delivered all three of my children and I am expecting #4 in Feb. I got that she wanted some time with her family, but I don't know if I buy that. Years ago I had heard because I am a nurse that worked at Cornell that she and Hudson had an affair but I don't really believe that. [ Reply | More ]

Not sure if this helps, but a mom confided in me that her dc did not have high 90's (long story why she brought it up). Our school is very selective. They are diversity (not AA). Not sure that matters but I know that if a school wants a family, they make concessions. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] OK, I may out myself a bit on this one, but WWYD...Ds first learned about guns or "shooters" as he calls them, during his first week of K. First from a dc in his class with an older sibling and then from a 2nd grader on his bus. We told him how we felt about guns, how they can hurt people, they are dangerous, we don't like them, etc., but I did not make a huge deal about it. Now ds is getting in trouble for pretending to shoot kids in class with his finger, and today I learned that he drew a picture of himself holding a gun and pointing it at someone that he was mad at. Seriously, ds has no real idea how terrible guns are. How do I handle this? I think he is doing it to get attention, but not sure. 25 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

the school probably has a rule about this, which is why he is getting in trouble for it. Tell him straight out it's a rule. He doesn't have to like it or understand it. He has to follow it. Let him know that if he's at home by himself he can do it. [ Reply | More ]

Instead of emphasizing how "we don't like guns" or "guns are dangerous", you might do well to introduce "gun rules", since he probably doesn't consider himself a member of "we who don't like guns". And the number one gun rule to learn first is never to point a gun at anyone. This usually gets their attention better. [ Reply | More ]

I'll share my thoughts. Moms know. They just do. So, quiet yourself and listen to the mommy phone. If it isn't ringing, then chances are there is no real problem. Another thought - schools have gone mad with assessements. They truly have. They are patholizing, dx, therapying and medicating normal little boys at alarming rates. So, if you and your dh feel there is nothing truly wrong with your dc other than a typical little boy - don't be bullied. Just don't. You can either be forthright, or stall, or play good cop bad cop and any number of things. But, your number one priority is to do the best you can for your child. Keep that in mind. Keep in mind that you YES YOU are the epert on your child. And if you do hear the phone ringing and can afford it - do a private evaluation - having nothing to do with the school. Best of luck to you and your dc whatever YOU decide to do at this time. Oh yea, and that is the other thing. You have time. He's in K for crying out loud. No big deal. Anything can wait until at least first grade - at least!!! [ Reply | More ]

Hello OP, I don't know if you are returning to check this, but I wanted to throw in something else. I am NP and have one ds with an autism spectrum disorder. I know other kids on the spectrum too. Many of these kids have a family member (sometimes dad) who also has not that great eye contact. Some of them are great at math and/or engineering. There seems to be some crossover of genes. I studied math in grad school and my advisor's son had autism too. Just bc your son has below avg eye contact (IF he does) in some settings, means nothing at all. There are a million genetic variations which include various levels of shyness, and even some extreme shadow versions of some kind of autism spectrum disorder. It means nothing. My brother might have had something like that (there were signs when he was young). He is a popular and social person now as an adult. The autism gene could even be there but be so weakly expressed that it makes no difference. So don't worry, let your child grow, and avoid the labels. The world has gone mad with labels for little boys. [ Reply | More ]
