[ - ] well, what am I supposed to do now? I was thinking drinking 2-3 beers or glasses of wine every evening (between 6-ish and 10-ish) might be getting problematic. So I decided to do an experiment this week and go cold turkey (I really can't have just one). And in the evening (only in the evening) i'm a raging lunatic toward my kids. I need to take the edge off! 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I dropped off our contracts and check on a Friday, and the check was presented for payment the following Monday. Some schools may just be lax about depositing checks, or somebody may be on vacation, yada, yada. Honestly, I wouldn't sweat it. Accepted is accepted. Having said that, if you give it another couple of days and the check still hasn't been cashed, just call the school's business office and see what's up. [ Reply | More ]

Many schools on the UES this year said they had no morning spots for non-siblings. That meant all new families were only going to be offered afternoon (e.g. Brick, All Souls, PAC). It's not a reflection of the children, but just the reality of huge number of siblings going to these schools. [ Reply | More ]

Lentils, beans, chickpeas--sounds dull but if you think ethnic and find some good recipes, you'll be able to make a lot of nice, interesting, colorful stews and soups that will stretch your budget a lot--curries, etc. or with a little sausage or ham hocks or whatever to spice it up. Or go to Chinatown and get some ideas--great greens to stirfry, tofu...as long as you budget in enough for onions, garlic, fresh ginger, chilis, etc.. A lot of people without a lot of money eat interesting and healthy food--it just takes some extra time. Processed food is actually so expensive... [ Reply | More ]

A lot of parents make the mistake of overfeeding because the baby is fussy. Has she ruled out colic? According to my pediatrician, colic is not gas but a continuing headache from the head being compressed in the uterus and (sometimes) during birth. My dd had it BAD but 2 treatments of osteopathic head treatments (also done by ped because she is certified for both) and my little baby had NO MORE colic at all. [ Reply | More ]

DF, who I don't think UBs, may be the only person I know who could really answer this question. She has had two children start in ELF for 3s and then move to YAP for 4s. She did it with her second (even though she could have started 2nd in YAP 3s program) because she really loved the teacher in ELF and the experience her 1st child had there. If you thought you would want to move to YAP for 3s or 4s the following year you would still need to request an application by phone on Labor Day. [ Reply | More ]

If you have an external infection (aka swimmer's ear) in the canal, you will need eardrops. Antibiotics will do you no good, don't let them put you on them. If you have a middle ear infection, they will put you on a course of antibiotics, but it will not really do you much good. A decongestant may stop you from getting an infection if you feel like one may be brewing. [ Reply | More ]

Could not have had a different experience. DD is in the creche program now, and we are absolutely delighted. She separated well, the teachers all seem excellent, and she loves school. IPS is much less structured, and much more "play based" than some parents want, but we deliberately wanted a less structured environment for our extremely high energy child. IPS has been great for us. [ Reply | More ]
