[ - ] Anyone one else one who maternity leave screwed up their work? We just reorganized and the new mgmt is all about time and grade and the fact that I took 6 months off last year is really hurting me indirectly. I'm getting the worst projects, the worst office etc. I'm thankful that I have a job but it is hard b/c I KNOW things would be different had I not taken the time off last year. 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

The world would end if females stopped having babies -- six months is not that long over the length of a career. She should be treated based on her time spent at the company and her performance prior to leaving and given appropriate projects based on those factors. I like to see some of the men in my office go through half the things woman do while pregnant. They would never make it. [ Reply | More ]

Of course, and why should you be in the same position as the colleagues who have sweated blood for the co. for the last 6 mos while you were home--and who will do your extra work while you are at home with your sick toddler etc etc? Every time she bumps into another gossipy (un-informed) friend, calls with directives about what we should do to "resolve this problem." I agree. You are going to be looking all over the city!!!I would limit my search to two areas. I am oly familiar with the UES. I would say that 6 and 290 are the most highly regarded. 290 has a major overcrowding problem, no gym, over enrolled by the most percentage. 6 is also a great school but is getting more and more crowded also. There were 5 K classes in my DD's year alone. The parents are a little more snooty and the real estate is more expensive. Check with the DOE because brokers will tell you wrong info. 290 has amazing teachers, which is its strength. I don't think you can wrong with either. [ Reply | More ]

ITA. If you want 41, suggest you try to find a place as close to 41 as possible, so as to increase the likelihood that if there is a rezoning, you'll be in the rezoned area for 41. Agree that 2013 is a long way away, and that there's no guarantee the new school will be up and running by then. But if you're planning to buy, I think that apartments in the zone for 41 (whatever that may be) will have higher resale value. Also, even if the new school won't be ready anytime soon, there's always the threat that places north of 14th Street could be rezoned for, say, PS 11. [ Reply | More ]

After she's done I brush. Sometimes she even lets me floss her teeth. She goes to the dentist every six months. I wouldn't say so. We go to a developmental school (92nd street Y - or I don't know what it is really but it's not classically "traditional") and the kids do really well with exmissions, including the "unconnected" ones. If the ongoings clearly preferred more academic backgrounds I promise that nursery schools would be following suit. I'd think you'd have the most success choosing a nursery school based on your child's style (if there's such a thing at 2) and your own tastes and preferences. [ Reply | More ]

Do you mean adjusting to the first yr at ongoing? I think whatever a dc learns in prek just sets them up for a start in k. In a couple of yrs, whether a dc went to prek or not, they are all at the same level. That is probably wasn't what you were asking. I think that it depends on where a dc goes to K. If dc goes into a tradional ongoing, it probably helps alot. We have two dcs who went to very progressive preks and they had a hard time adjusting to the new format of the school day at our traditonal school. [ Reply | More ]
