NP: I'm worried about the next 12 weeks in terms of "will I still have a job?" and "will my company still exist?" If the only issue you have in your life at present is what private school your kid will or won't get into, you should be feeling extremly fortunate, not worrying about whether or not you can "keep it together". The last week of waiting is absolutely the worst. Pace yourself or you're going to be spun out of control by then. DISTRACT yourself, your children will pick up on your anxiety and any extreme disappointment or excitement over the results should never ever be shared with any of your children. [ Reply | More ]

np The WORST is the week after letters go out, imo. People have hushed conversations about where there kid got in and, understandably, shut out families and parents who figured their kid who got into X 3rd was a shoo in for Y tt are pretty miserable and pissed off. [ Reply | More ]

yeah i forgot about that. that's when i was sooo glad i work full time. i got all the info from my nanny and didn't have to hear it first hand. i was at a birthday party about a week after and one of the mothers (who happened to be my friend) started telling me about not getting in anywhere and she melted down and started crying at the party in front of everyone. her husband was not supportive at all because he is very controlling and he insisted they only apply to three schools and the schools were all ultra competitive. it was awful. I had someone tell me a few weeks before letters came out that psd said her dc's erb was too low for any of the schools she applied to. I really didn't know what to say (totally caught off guard--woman wasn't a close friend and I'd never been privy to her business), so I said something like "well, you never know". She lost it on me--yelled and screamed and asked me what planet I was from and whether I was a moron and literally ran down the street crying. It was awful. [ Reply | More ]

the level of stress surrounding the application process is ridiculous. I also saw how some families really didn't understand the process. I'm sure it hurt their child's results. I was so grateful that I got great guidance from my male colleagues. So many of their wives were tour guides and volunteers at their schools and they had the inside scoop on how to navigate the system. Thank goodness for those husbands with kids a couple years older than mine! [ Reply | More ]

What do you mean some families really didn't understand the process? I thought it was pretty straightforward. [ Reply | More ]

It's really not that straightforward.. private vs public/ different calendar deadlines depending on what kind of school/ different tests / lots of choice amongst the private schools. Yeah.. i thought it was straightforward, after I bought every book at BandN, spoke to parents of older kids, and met with my exmissions director. But that took me a lot of time in between my 65 hour a week job. [ Reply | More ]

If you're only applying to ISAAGNY privates (all of which have websites with extensive info) what you need to do is laid out very clearly, imo. Ditto Hunter. Didn't apply to other publics, so don't know about them. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] I posted last night about finding printed email from DH's ex. Anyone on right now? I want so badly to confront now but he's at work. Bad to ask him over the phone? Didn't sleep at all thinking about it. Feel like I don't know him right now at all. Things could be better for us. Stressful time financially among other things. What should I do? 10 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Without knowing your past history with your DH, it is difficult to give you some good advice. From your postings, it seems that you either suspect your DH of having or contemplating an affair (has he had one in the past?) If this is true, then I understand your desire to confront him as soon as possible. However, you need to figure out the best way to do so - would a telephone conversation be productive? or would it be better to wait for a private face-to-face? You know your husband best [ Reply | More ]

No affair that I know of but the history with this women is not great. She had a boyfriend at the time they were together and from what friends say she took advantage of him. I'm not usually jealous of his past girlfriends. Just this was a pretty unhealthy relationship so I guess I don't trust him. Also it's not been the easiest of years for us. [ Reply | More ]

Former DOA here - the clincher for me was always that a child immediately connected with the other children, interacted well with them-sharing and speaking with them. A child who was kind to another child and/or exhibited healthy curiosity about the others was always a sure bet. [ Reply | More ]
