I think the problem here is the terms you are using "school" and "teacher", which perhaps misguides your thoughts about what your child is entering. At 5 months, your kid needs a care provider, that was you, and now it's going to be somebody else. Of course he's going to be upset, his world is totally changing. As for your questions about how to separate, the daycare usually has suggestions and guidelines on a case by case basis. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Advice please- 3 month old ds- i don't like dh doing nite feeds b/c it's always a production. he won't get the bottle ready in advance & won't feed ds in his room resulting in ds screaming in the lit kitchen while he gets bottle ready. DH talks to him which further works ds up. Ds never goes back down easily & it always becomes a 1 to 2 hour feeding production. when i nurse him at night it's 20 mins, no talking, in the dark & he's back down. It's so much easier for everyone & I really believe the extra stimulation ds gets when dh does the feeding makes these middle of the nite feeds such an event which is the exact opposite of what he needs at this point to help him move past these nite feeds. how do i tell dh this w/o him getting pissed? he thinks i'm being a control freak and maybe i am but i'd rather just do myself, save everyone the trouble and keep ds calm and relaxed. tia (sorry so long) 15 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

np: so it looks like you have a few choices: 1) understand that, for whatever reason, this is how your DH wants to do night feeds. Be grateful that he's doing them. Let go of your ideas about how to do it and just go with that. 2) take over all night feeds so they are done the way you like them. or 3) try to find a way to bridge the two styles (for example, making up bottles ahead of time and leaving in a little cooler next to a bottle warmer). You know, I was thinking about how it worked for us w/ #1 and this is what we did (if you have the extra space for it, it's helpful): Sun-Thurs I slept w/ DS (in his bassinet) and got up for all night feeds. DH would sometimes do an early a.m. feed. He is up and out early, very stressful job, needs his sleep. Then Fri. night I would sleep in the guest room while he did all the care for DS that night and I could catch up on my sleep. Sat. night we stayed in the mb together and split the difference (I'd take late feeds, he'd take a.m.'s). He got to get good at it on his won w/o me hovering around. It worked really well and felt fair (to us). [ Reply | More ]

Be consistent. Don't respond, or have a tag line you use, or simply don't engage w/ her until she's polite. I was sitting in the park the other day and a 4 or 5 y.o. girl sat down next to her nanny and said, in the snottiest tone possible "put on my shoe for me." I actually physically bristled and I think the nanny felt it because she very meekly prompted the girl to say "please." Which she did--in a very annoyed tone--and then said "and put on the other one too." I would die if my kids were talking to adults like that. [ Reply | More ]

My mom makes fruit leather for them from her blackberries and that's a big treat. DS loves crystallized ginger, but I think most kids wouldn't. And also the Total Greek Yogurt w/ honey and peaches. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, just tell your dc that it is their bedtime, different family different rules. The dc can be in their own backyard. Turn on a fan if it bothers dc. [ Reply | More ]

No; you're not rude to say something but don't be shocked if their response seems rude to you. Your kids' summertime bedtime may not really be that much of a concern to them; It's their backyard and their Summertime too. [ Reply | More ]

If you said it to me, I would say, I'm sorry your dc are having a hard time going to bed. Our children are allowed to play outside until xx time. I'm pretty sure the noise level won't go down - have you considered shutting your windows or getting a fan or white noise machine? [ Reply | More ]

I actually think my response was considerate. What you want to happen is that I change my childs bedtime/play routine to accomadate yours. Which is completely unrealistic. You deal wiht your rules and your children and do the best you can. You cannot dictate what time other people allow their children to play in the backyard. You sound like a fruitcake even trying. Hardly a fruitcake. I want a reasonably quiet environment after dark - not a posse of 10 year olds screaming. I certainly cannot dictate what anyone else does but I don't think its unreasonable to expect people to live in a community rather then in their own little bubble. [ Reply | More ]

you need to put an ac or fan on. you are rude, and clearly the parent of only a preschooler, to stop other children from appropriate summertime play just so your kids don't have to hear it. [ Reply | More ]

OMG, it is their yard. You live in the burbs, people move to the burbs so that they have a backyard for dc to run around in. They are little kids, it is not like they are beer bong drinking, pot smoking, loud music playing teenagers, leave it alone. [ Reply | More ]

This really shouldn't be an issue, close the windows put on some music and send your children to bed. And BTW, my dc sleeps in NYC with sirens going up and down the street - is this YOUR issue or is it really somehow keeping your child awake at night? [ Reply | More ]

sounds like her issue is specifically with the sound of children's voices, probably because her kids then ask why they aren't allowed to play. it's a parenting issue, not a noise issue. [ Reply | More ]

Mine go to bed at 7:30 and have heard the neighbor kids outside playing later. It is never an issue. We are really clear that we do things our way in our family, end of discussion. If it is past 9 and very loud then maybe ask them to quiet down. But for gosh sakes not because your little sweeties are sleeping. [ Reply | More ]
