Initially not good. Technician didn't reply to any of our qus (is that the spine? etc), seemed to be struggling but didn't communicate. To cut a long story short after 15 mins of silence (m) I burst into tears thinking there was something wrong with the baby. Senior tech (very nice) came in saying heart was hard to see. Then doc came in to give results (which were fine) so in the end OK and initial tech apologised. Basically competent but had no social skills.

Besides the REALLY long wait it was a v good exp. The technician was very nice and answered all of our questions. The radiologist seemed a little put out that we did not want to know the gender...like we were ruining his big moment. Hee hee.

I think of SFers as being smug about living in SF, but in a different way than NYCers. SFers think it's the best city in the world and everyone should move there, NYCers would prefer everyone else to stay away. IMO.

I used to live in SF. The difference is that people in SF think they are the so open, diverse and caring, when they're really the opposite and kind of cliquish, NYCers just admit who they are, if they're snobs they say, "Well yes, I'm a snob and proud

no offense to OB's but I don't think they can tell. I was told baby would be "very small" under 5 lbs. and that my pelvis was small. Delivered a 6.4 baby vaginally w/no major problems.

WTF? No way. Don't listen to your OB. Its just psychological (the tensing up I mean). YOu might be one of those women (like me) that needed an epidural to dilate. I wouldnt' worry about this now.

This is probably not what you want to hear but it is so hard to predict what will happen in a birth situation. Just let it go and what will happen will happen. A c-sec is not so terrible and even vaginal birth does not always happen the way you intend.

This sounds wacky. During labor, your body changes & pelvic region widens out to allow for baby to pass thru. How can he predict if you aren't even in labor yet??

OB warned me pelvis probably too small & head too big. Went for the c-section. He said I could try for vaginal but was not optimistic. Happy w/ the choice I made (m) wanted to avoid difficult birth which would increase possibility of baby going into distress, & require more medical intervention.

Honestly? Pls don't flame. If my OB EVER EVER EVER suggested in any way to me that I should be induced or might "need" a C-S (other than a clear med reason like breech or previa), I would find another OB and fast. JMHO.

np: If you are pretty committed to trying to avoid a c/s, have you thought about hiring a doula to help you? When I was in labor, the only thing I could concentrate on was making it thru each contraction (m) Having a doula who is experienced in helping you and mediating between you and a doctor who might be eager to cut might be a good idea. I know that I would have needed that sort of intermediary if my labor had gone differently.

That doesn't make any sense. I did not dilate prior ro going into labor. After 30 hours I was 3 cm. It did end in a section, but because the baby never dropped into the pelvis. Just be prepared for all eventualities and focus on having a healthy baby.

I'm sorry you are being spoken to like that. Your OB should be able to examine your cervix , but remember you may not dilate until the last moment. You can have a vaginal birth, believe in it! Don't let them get you down.

Your OB is being an idiot. he also should be nicer about you tensing up. You may very well be dilated and nothing he is saying suggests that your pelvis will not open up as needed.

It's funny, now that OB is doing internals, it always takes me a sec to relax so she reads me as being less dilated at first, then more (I'm 2.5) after a few secs. I don't think lack of dilation before hand means anything except that you will have (m) farther to go once labor starts. They can aid dilation w/ cervidil if nec'y. At least that is what I have gleaned from what OB has said to me re. dilation.

^^^She basically said that if it got to the point where they had to induce, they would not have me come in the night before for cervidil since I was already a bit dilated. they would just start the pitocin right away. BTW, it seems like I could (m) choose to be induced at 40 wks due only to impatience and discomfort if I wanted (I don't).

For 1st time births, statistically, the "best" situation for induction is to already be dilated and effaced. Inducing for no real reason when you are not dilated is really not a great idea, more likely to end up w/ a C-S.

What's your price range and how far a commute are you looking for? (m) Bedford/Katonah/Pound Ridge in Northern Westchester are about an hour on the train into Grand Central. We are looking there (not Pound Ridge because it doesn't have its own train station, making the commute longer), and we are finding lovely, renovated homes (2500-3500 square feet) on lots of property (1+ acres) for about $900k. Low taxes too ($10k and under).

Also add Grover Park (just north of Georgetown) and Cathedral Heights to the list as very family friendly and in the city.

I think that the good private schools (St. Albans, Friends, Cathedral School, etc.) are as $$ as NY or MORE!!! Adams Morg., Dupont Circle & Gtown ARE NOT CHEAP. (m) The limited # of reasonably priced rentals in these neighborhoods are student or unpaid intern type housing & are not near the Metro. Also, some of the marginal neighborhoods are dangerous by anybody's standards.DC is a wonderful city -- it's just not cheap.

Housing prices down there have gone through the ceiling in the last 5 - 8 years. I'd guess you'd need 150k assuming you had a decent chunk of cash for downpayment & no private school.

Not quite as bad as NY but wages are lower down there & you have to have a car, food prices comparable to ny, drycleaning more $ than NY, restrs. just as $ as ny

DC UBer here, would you want a 2Br apt? In Cleveland Park/Woodley area can get one for around $1800/month. Can find much cheaper in other areas (e.g., on metro in VA). I moved from NYC b/c better quality of life for less $$ here.

Sorry, 90k won't get nice neighborhood, private schools are must, DC gov/schools are incredibly corrupt/backwards/etc. Alexandria ps might be better, but rent will be pretty high too.

give it a try, if she does not like it, take her out. i think it really varies, depending on the baby. my friend's dd was in the big tub from day 1, dd still is not happy in it, and she is 1. i just wash her when i shower.

Yes. It's the Euro bath, and it is big. Also, dd is not that big herself (21.5 pounds at 19 mos). We just got over a bout where she totally resisted the bath. So I'm letting this go a while before we try to move to regular tub

We started first with an inflatable duckie tub that we put in the big tub. Around 8 mos. when DS was sitting great, we switched just to a tub mat. Some people like the swivel seats, we didn't.
