They're so cheap you shouldn't have to. There are probably lots of ways of repurposing household items to make beanbags, you could make it into a project for the classroom. Get a cover and have the kids bring in the packing peanuts, you can stuff the chair as a classroom. [ Reply | More ]

It's not you. I was addressing the dummy responding to you. My answer about your husband's girlfriend is that notwithstanding a court order based on things like therapy appointments, testimony from your kids (they may be too young) etc., you don't have much power to make rules absent a legal agreement ahead of time. I wish I could keep my ex's gf entirely from my kids, it's not possible. At least she makes it clear that she doesn't like them and they don't have relationships with her, though they have to see her. I'd actually be more upset if she were super fairy-sprinkle nice to them. But she's not. She's not that smart. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, if you think it would be detrimental to the kids you can have a court block her seeing them for a certain amount of time- 6 months, a year. It usually comes from a rec from a therapist, etc. It all gets put into the settlement/custody arrangements. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, which is why I'm advocating this route. Too many spouses still in love with their spouse, or low self esteem, talk their attorney out of what they could get. There's no redo. See it all the time on UB. To your point, there are attorneys that will bleed the situation dry, but any review check will reveal that. [ Reply | More ]

Maybe you are expecting men to be women. If they ALL lack empathy, maybe empathy is not a male characteristic. My husband is very nice and will do anything I ask him to, but I do have to ask. Where do I begin. Calls me a cunt regularly. Pinches my fat to imply that I'm fat, meanwhile my BMI is 18.5 so as skinny as I could get without technically having an eating disorder. Threw a water bottle at me once in front of an enterprise rent a car dude because he was mad that I didn't call ahead to reserve the car and we had to wait 30 minutes at the car rental place. Stuffed the Christmas tree I put up in the closet because he didn't "agree" to have a Christmas tree and doesn't approve of Christmas decorations. Tonight he was mad that I moved the couch a few feet over so I could let in more natural light from the windows, so he decided to set the thermostat to 89 degrees and then take it off so that I couldn't readjust it as some kind of retribution. When I called him out on it, he continued to ignore me and packed a bag to go to his friend's house. I imagine he's currently telling his friend what a horrible cunt I am for moving the couch. His friend is single and had said out loud to me and others that he hates women, so I imagine his friend is telling him how right he is and how much women suck and what a bitch I am. [ Reply | More ]

Right, we've been married a year. We did live together before marriage but with another couple. He had many OCD moments with them as well. He can be very hard to get along with at times, but he does have a good heart and many good qualities and talents. He's just very immature when it comes to communication during conflicts. I am hoping this improves with age. I think in general men are about a decade less mature than women. [ Reply | More ]

And update on the above from what happened tonight: He did come back from his friend's house and apologize a few hours after the incident. He put back the thermostat, and we found a mutually agreed upon placement for the couch. He thinks it is manipulative when I move things without getting a joint agreement first. I think he's overreacting to minor things, but I agreed to get approval and joint agreements for any moving of furniture in the future. [ Reply | More ]

I'm pretty sure he has aspergers. He loses his temper and gets so flustered when something doesn't go his way. This happens about once every few weeks. He will give me the silent treatment or call me a cunt and a bitch or do something like what he did today to the thermostat. And then he will calm down and apologize and be nice and reasonable and pleasant. He's never physically abusive. He also goes above and beyond to do many nice things for me. It's like when he's mad it's very bad but when he's good it's very good. Like that poem with the line I burn my candle at both ends. He's a terrible person when we fight but he's a wonderful husband most of the time. It's hard to explain. He's not a typical person. I think he is aspie. I think he feels like if I move a couch or put up a Christmas tree this is as if I punched him in the face. His brain is just different than most, but he does have many positive qualities too. Thank you for your sympathy! We are currently in world's worst divorce process. Total nightmare. Yes, he is obviously a sex addict. So many stories I could tell you! The friendship with the best friend ended when I discovered all this. Her husband didn't believe me when I told him what I knew, and actually threatened a lot of harm to *me* when I told him. My husband did a lot of telling people I was a crazy liar, it turns out. I think he might be a sociopath/narcissistic/gaslighting emotional abuser of some sort. But he's also a bit sloppy with the details, so luckily I now have ironclad evidence of some of the horrible things he's done (including endangering my children, sadly, but at least I now have *proof* to fight for my children in court!). What a terrible friend, I hope she gets her karma soon. If she already cheated on her DH before, then it's probably only a matter of time before she cheats again and eventually gets caught and her DH sees her true lying nature. Good luck to you throughout the divorce process, and I hope you get full custody. Smart of you to get evidence on your ex-DH like that. How were you able to catch him in his lies? [ Reply | More ]

I don't want to say too much because we are in active litigation, but the start of it was that he had gotten a new phone and hadn't password protected it yet, and (fueled by years of living a life that often didn't make sense) I got on it after he went to bed and discovered his insane double life. During the divorce process, the most outrageously damning evidence practically fell into my lap with no effort on my part. And my amazing and aggressive attorney took all the right steps to make the evidence work for me. [ Reply | More ]

I had to fire my first attorney due to HUGE malpractice (wish I was joking!), but I can't move forward with the malpractice case until the divorce is done. So my current divorce attorney is a referral from my malpractice attorney. At the time I fired the first attorney, my case was a "burning building" that most attorneys were unwilling to enter. But the new attorney I hired was not afraid to go running into that building and he was able to articulate a coherent strategy for getting me and my children out alive. He's going to get my divorce finished as strongly as he can -- particularly on the child custody side of things -- and then the malpractice guy will take it from there to make things right with the money. OP: For example, I was supposed to meet a friend for brunch Sunday mid am. She texted that she also has plans about an hour away beforehand, so could we do 12:30, which would work for her as long as she leaves the other plans promptly at 11:30. My family was going to a movie midafternoon, so 12:30 (and she runs late, tons of traffic in LA) means I would most likely be looking at the time the entire time so I am not late for the movie. She said "I really want to see you and don't want to cancel," but to me 10:30 11 changing to 12:30 (and her concept of the drive was way underestimated... plus she runs VERY late) stressed me out. Fairway hands down. They have everything, everything! Whole Foods doesn't carry commercial grocery brands that I rely on like Heinz and Kellogs - the organic sauces taste crappy as does the cereal. Also, Fairway has a much better international food section - better foreign brands and their fish mongers and butchers are masters of the craft / lifetime employees. Whole foods has much prettier produce but Fairway comes a very close second and has too many other things going for it. The restaurant on 74th is awesome too. Signed UWSr. [ Reply | More ]

You might want to consider that that much alcohol is associated with increased cancer risk and other health problems -- drinking is glamorized and it's contribution to blood pressure, stroke risk and other risks are minimized. For every Ed McMahon and Keith Richards, there are 1000 dead dudes and ladies from other diseases that aren't "liver disease" per se, but damaged liver has a domino effect on your body's ability to heal a host of environmental assaults. Consider adding other methods, in addition to alcohol,to decompress. And research why people consider quitting alcohol altogether -- what health problems they noticed from drinking long term and how it affected mood and ability to problem solve. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] I want to go dairy free for a while to see if it helps with some health things but I also need coffee, hate it black and am allergic to nuts. What can I use? I always hear soy milk is best avoided, coconut creamer usually has nut milk. Is oat milk actually palatable? 11 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Try it. But soy is fine. Millions of asian people eat lots of soy. [ Reply | More ]

It's so easy to make soy milk at home from organic soybeans. Just takes water and soybeans and a blender and some cheesecloth. Try it! Delicious. You can add a splash of vanilla to it and you'll know the ingredients are pure. [ Reply | More ]

You have to just adjust to black. How I did it was slowly weaning myself off the milk/cream. But eventually I just did all black and added a bit of hot water. [ Reply | More ]

Good luck! I prefer oat milk, coconut milk or hemp milk. They also make great coconut or almond milk creamers. Some brands are better than others so stick with it till you find what you like and what works. There are so many options these days that there is no reason to use soy [ Reply | More ]

Also, you could try cold brew coffee black as it has a much milder taste and is less acidic [ Reply | More ]
