op. I just use my crockpot. 1lb of butter to 1 oz weed, broken up. Pour in water to bring the mixture to about 2/3 full. I start with a few hours at high, then when I go to sleep I turn it to low. In the morning, I unplug the crockpot and let it all cool such that it's not so hot it will burn you, but not cooled enough for the fat to start solidifying yet. I line a large plastic bowl with double cheesecloth, pour the entire contents of the crockpot into it, gather up the cheesecloth and wring out all the water and the melted butter. You can throw the cheesecloth and the plant material out, it's of no use anymore. Pour the water/melted butter mixture into a clean container with a lid and put it into the freezer. Within an hour or two the fat will have risen to the top and solidified, and the leftover water will be at the bottom. I try to get it out of the freezer while the cannabutter is solid but the water hasn't frozen. You can just pop the top layer out of the container, discard the water, and then put your butter back into your container. you can keep the cannabutter in the fridge or freezer, but I recommend the freezer to keep mold from developing. I have some bags of Duncan Hines and Betty Crocker mix ready to go, 2 dozen eggs. Planning some cookies and caramels this week. Maybe brownies. I wrap them up tight individually and shove them to the back of the bottom drawer of the freezer. My kids never go in that freezer anyway. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Re: BK privates. I feel bad for the parents who are now shut out from private, but I don't understand how parents could purchase a "dream home" that is an unacceptable school district. I assume these are families priced out of buying good school districts in Manhattan or Bklyn- don't they realize that *is* the differential? The "Brownstone BedStuy" real estate rush has always seemed kind of insane and this seems to prove it. 170 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

No, to say otherwise is actually to be a parent with a child in private school and an alum of a private school. I think it would be absurd to pay so much for the hope of a good college. Kids go to great colleges from public school everyday. [ Reply | More ]

Kids are able to achieve many things from a variety of places this is true. But it is also true that some places make it more likely and others less likely (rep among colleges, historical data, etc). I am not accusing this school of falling into either category. I just think the data could be clearer. [ Reply | More ]

She's right. BC isn't a great school. It's convenient if you're in Park Slope, but if you're anyplace else it's definitely third or fourth choice after Packer, St Ann's, and Poly Prep. It's like Brooklyn Friends - nobody WANTS to send their kids there, they just do because they don't get into the school they really want, it's not a first choice type of school. [ Reply | More ]

How do you not know this since you already know everything’s about the schools? BC is mostly park slope and close neirghbrohoods, very liberal, educated families. I’m this person. My oldest (now 5) was only 2 at the time, so we were still learning the game. Figured that between privates, charters, non-zoned schools and (possibly G&T) we would be fine. We ended up getting into a 3T private which we aren’t crazy about, but will give us time. It’s not like we are that cheap- our home was still almost $3M- but we have a 1,000sf terrace and a parking spot that we would never have been able to get in a good districts. It’s all a trade off for sure. (I’m not the Ivy grad poster btw). [ Reply | More ]

The same thing happened in Manhattan 10 years ago. Big baby boom, causing parents to apply to 10+ schools and be shutout, big WLs at desirable public schools, rezonings. A lot of people left Manhattan, and things calmed down. The shut outs in Bk now will either 1) move to burbs or out of NYC metro 2) go public by moving temporarily or 3) find a new under-the-radar charter or private. [ Reply | More ]

Because white parents feel they are entitled to real estate and school without actually contributing to the community. These parents think they are too good for the public schools and then get angry when they get shut out of private school. It happens EVER single year. Then try for a nearby public. You may have to put in some legwork but there are publics in Brooklyn that take out-of-zone kids. Two are 282 and 295. Did you test for G&T? There are options if you care to try, which I don’t believe you do. [ Reply | More ]

Not fake. The school doesn’t push kids to meet any government-issued standards. All kids are smart and love school or they wouldn’t be there. Our experience with the parents had been fantastic though I have heard that varies by year (class ahead of our oldest is supposed to have some nightmare parents). Lots of individual focus for kids with unusual interests, teachers are amazing and truly love teaching there. But overall point is that I definitely wouldn’t have put all my hopes on getting into one of three schools and bought real estate in advance with that goal in mind. [ Reply | More ]

I absolutely would not go for a day trip. No way, no how. It's just not feasible. It is a small place that should be savored slowly. Walk around, take a boat trip, sit in a cafe and drink kriek and enjoy the scenery. Visit some museums. Eat. Enjoy the scenery, etc. It's not a wham bam kind of place. Um, no. Non-zoned siblings follow all zoned students in preference order: zoned siblings, all other zoned students, THEN non-zoned siblings ONLY IF school has room. In G&T, sibling preference will give you priority in the G&T program only if you stay in district. [ Reply | More ]

You should reach out to the DOE or one of those welcome centers, but I believe in the GenEd you would be bumped down. I believe the preference list for zoned is: 1.) siblings who live in the zone 2.) non-siblings who live in the zone 3.) siblings who live out of zone 3.) non-siblings who live out of zone. G&T the younger sibling would have to get the qualifying score, but I believe in that case your sibling preference would bump you up to the top. [ Reply | More ]

If you move out my of the zone, you can apply for an unzoned sibling to go to the school, but there is no guarantee as zoned children must get seats first. G&T is different. If you are in the same district and your child scores at least in the 90th percentile, they should get into the same G&T program. [ Reply | More ]

Get the one you prefer. Mother moved into a house with avocado green kitchen appliances. She hated them, but she couldn’t afford to replace perfectly good appliances. When the dishwasher died, she was going to buy a white one but thought it wouldn’t look right with the green ones, so she went green. Then a year later the stove died, same thing. And you know how this story ends. Eventually she had personally replaced all of the hated green appliances with... green appliances. If you prefer nickel, get nickel, and when you replace the brass one someday, get nickel again. [ Reply | More ]

You will die when I tell you, but let me preface this with the fact that skin cancer runs rampant in my family and I am fair skinned. I used to apply zinc, the the pharmacist told me that diaper rash cream is the most effective and inexpensive form of sunscreen because of the zinc content. I mix it with coconut oil and apply. I need maximum coverage. When I lived in France I used Avene, but I cannot use it here because products shipped to the use have inferior ingredients. I am travelling to Europe soon, so I will stock up, but in the US, I use the Diaper cream. Flame away. [ Reply | More ]

Thanks. There's no reason he shouldn't get into Booker T (MS54). He has perfect grades and 4's on the tests, great attendance, and they have 300(!) spots. But, you never know with the DOE... [ Reply | More ]

I feel similar about lab. They only use the test but DC is one of only we’ve talked to (at least 10) that finished math test. Would love N but sounds like unrealistic even with 4s across the board. [ Reply | More ]

Can someone please explain the IEP connection? My first grader has an IEP — speech therapy. He does not have an ICT designation. If he sticks with speech therapy through 5th grade, will this IEP help his admissions? [ Reply | More ]

DF is redshirting her DS for K next year and he is a late April birthday because she thinks it's too early to send him to school. It's none of my business, but that seems extreme! F [ Reply | More ]

Exactly. How can you compare that child to one who won’t turn 5 until the end of December of kindergarten? Twenty months is huge difference. [ Reply | More ]
