If you handle this well, and not selfishly or needy, it will be ok. Put yourself in his shoes. If you were starting a new position, you would need time, patience and support from your loved one. For now, dont be wishy washy with him. Men love confidence. Its a turn on. He also doesnt want to worry about how you are feeling during this exciting and maybe nervous time for him. Tell him you are taking him to dinner to celebrate this weekend, and make it special and fun. Speak with confidence - NOT "oh boo hoo, what will happen now" . The week before he starts, tell him that you want to give him some space, not to worry about you and to call when he can to get together, that you understand how busy he will be , but that you like him and you understand." [ - ] Repost for weekday crowd and I apologize for length: Need Advice: was elected as president of a sports club last July. The founder of the club and director of coaching needed a board in order to gain access to a top league (to show it wasn’t just a one man show; there will be checks and balances). I am basically acting as administrator handling all contact with parents, billing, social media, etc. The founder does none of the day to day. I honestly don’t mind about that part. I enjoy the work and enjoy the sport. The issue is there are a couple other board members he butts heads with and they are simply trying to help him out. One of them did all of the registrations for the new league and the founder got upset and went off on him after the board member asked him three times over email to pay the $1k fee. We are not running like a true board. We are fronting money to cover things and we have no access to the bank accounts or budget. Anyway, his email was pretty uncalled for - he called the board member passive aggressive and said “don’t you have a credit card.” He fears losing control. He also lashed out at another board member that defended the one asking for payment saying things like “I think your smart enough to know..but maybe not”. Other issues: asks for practice to be set up last minute, I do it and then he doesn’t show after everyone goes to trouble rearranging schedules. (He knew another team from the club would be there so I’m guessing just assumed they could just join them, therefore not completely leaving them stranded), he is slow to reimburse me, sees the board as free labor and also the enemy, is very erratic - will go quiet not reply for days, then flurry of activity. Ok to cut this as short as possible, I’m so tired of dealing with him but I’m also not comfortable cutting out on my board term and letting down families. If I were to resign I would also feel the need to pull my child out since I worry about how he would react. I worry about the team my child is on because i keep it running and if we left it feels like I’m deserting everyone. And also I would have guilt:issue about leaving before the end of spring (the winter session just started, then spring season). Should I resign now and tell him and pull my child now? Or should I ride it out and do the bare minimum until the end of spring? He is not stupid and would probably see the writing on the wall so I worry how awkward the rest of the year will be, but I can probably deal. He trusts me a lot and has not blown up at me yet, so I’m guessing he will see this as a big betrayal. Sorry this is so long. 12 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

OP: I hear you! Ok the tl;dr version. I’m on a sports club board. The club founder is still in charge of the budget and all accounts. He has horrible communication, has threatened another board member, sets up practice and doesn’t show, expects board to front money, etc. should o resign as preisident now and pull my kid. Or should I stick it out until the end of spring? I don’t like to quit something in the middle and worry how this will affect my child’s team. Could potentially make an excuse of being to busy and resign, but keep my kid on the team. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] My DH had a colonoscopy and on the medical report that we received upon Check In at Mt Sinai, it said " history of depression" and obese. He was shocked ! He gained weight - is 235 on a 6 foot frame. But has never been called obese by any doctor. Also, once he went to his physical, and did say to the doctor that he gets depressed from time to time, at that time, was having a struggle in his career, it was an 8 week period in a 50 year old life. In addition , he never went to therapy and never took any meds. My question is this : soon we will be shopping for a new Life Insurance policy ...this is now "public" for insurers to see ? How to get it removed ...the doctor who wrote it does not identify himself, its just a vague and generalized report. DH is furious that this will now follow him during any health procedures in the future. Anything we can do ? 21 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Obesity is a simple calculation of BMI. Either you're obese or not, it isn't a value judgment. The depression thing is an example of the evils of electronic medical records, everything gets carried forward into your new record. EMR is helpful in some respects and a nightmare in others. 2 things: 1) does he remember the therapist he saw? I had an issue with life insurance for similar reasons, and was able to have my shrink write a letter and basically remove the impact in terms of rating / rates. if he can find the therapist, he can do this. Or find a new therapist who will evaluate him, explain the situation, and ask new therapist to write a letter. 2) My DH is similar - 6 feet and ~230. It cracks me that he is categorized as obese because, honestly, no one would ever look at him and think that - he just has huge shoulders and is a big guy. The BMI is what it is, but shouldn't be the end all and be all. If he has good heart health, cholesterol, etc., probably won't be an issue. [ Reply | More ]

OR - by the way, get a good insurance agent who can help you with the process, if you anticipate issues. My brother has ~$22 M of life insurance for various reasons (5 kids, super high income, but he is only in his 30s, so felt that for family to maintain lifestyle, this is what would be required) - he sent me to his guy at Northwestern Mutual, who was already making a ton of money from our family, and helped me figure it all out. [ - ] I have never been to Disney. The post below has me a bit shocked, I had no idea people really spent that much money on it. Is it really worth all that $? Do kids really love it that much? Mine have never even asked to go (boys, never into Disney movies). How does the average american family ever afford to go there (even without the 6k for a private guide!) 11 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

we have been at least 6 times. why? its easy!!! go to parks maybe 4 or 5 hours as a thing to do, then hand at hotel. warm in FL. Disney is clean and kid friendly. so, just easy! My boys could not walk around museams for hours, and disney gives us an excuse for fresh air iin Feb. [ Reply | More ]

We've been every 3 years or so. But I never spend that kind of money. I don't do park every day. I bought unexpired tix so I can stretch them out. It's not cheap but if you do it wisely, it's not more expensive than a regular national park trip. DC is no that into Disney but loved WDW. It's not the same as going to Universal or 6 Flags. Now have a 14 y/o DD and never went. She had never been a big fan of the Disney movies and not into the whole princess thing. We made the decision that for the same amount of money we could go to far more interesting and fun places. So we took DD to London and Paris when she was 6 instead. She still talks about the Beefeaters & the Ravens, the Crown Jewels, the massive dollhouse at Windsor and the Eiffel Tower. [ Reply | More ]

Hi...I got a funny read on this...It looks like you are starting from a place of emotional abundance, which I usually read as great happiness, but then there is also an air of sorrow around you. Were you motivated by a loss recently to start embracing life? I also drew both the Page of Coins and the Sun, which indicates an eager and diligent new start in business and ultimate success. So yeah, I think you have a good year ahead ;) Best of luck! [ Reply | More ]

Well I am eager :-) I wouldn't say I was motivated by a loss, but I think I have a health dose of worry as all NYers do. Ex-wife and DD think nothing of charging hundreds of thousands of dollars to insurance for all sorts of medical tests that, IMO, were largely unnecessary. I believe you're mistaken. After a two minute internet search: "Disney World ... offers something it calls VIP Tour Services. It allows participants to hop right onto most rides of their choosing as well as a bunch of other benefits. In late 2018, the fee to book a premium VIP tour is — brace yourself — $425 to $625 per hour, depending on the time of the year. There is a minimum 7-hour duration, so a tour could cost as much as $4,375. Yikes! And note that the cost does not include theme park admission..." [ Reply | More ]

No. 1. Don't go during Xmas or Thanksgiving or Easter. 2. Plan ahead. 3. Understand Fastpass and plan out your days. Yes it's lovely to not have to wait in line. But it's crazy to spend this kind of money on top of tix to enjoy the parks. It's Disney way to milk your money knowing some are lazy and rich. [ Reply | More ]

I have one moment that stands out above all the rest. I was waiting for someone to ask me this question. It's the reason I left a good job as a VIP Tourguide and moved to the Character Department. I was working City Hall one day when two guests came in with two little girls. One was in a wheel chair and the other one looked like she had just seen death. Both were cut and bruised and the one in the wheelchair had her arm in a cast. The two women were actually nurses from a hospital and were asking for a refund on the girl's tickets, something we avoided doing at all costs. When I asked why they told me the story. The two girls were with their mom and dad at Epcot and on the way home they got into a horrible car accident. The mother was beheaded right in front of them. The father eventually died too but the two girls didn't know that yet. They were from overseas and had no money and no contact information for anyone they knew. They were bringing the tickets back to get the girls some much needed money to help get them back home. My heart absolutely sunk. If you had seen these girls you'd know why. They were truly traumatized. I refunded their tickets and got permission to be their private tour guide for the rest of the day (which they were not expecting). I walked them to the VIP viewing area for the parade which was as far as I could walk them in the costume we used to wear at City Hall. I had to leave them there while I put on my VIP costume. On the way down I pulled out every kid joke I could think of. I was a REALLY good tour guide (I helped write part of it) and I knew how to make kids smile. Nothing worked. These girls were too far gone for that. I left them at the bridge to go change, walked backstage and bawled my eyes out. I just had never seen something so horrible. I was truly affected and it was a terrible feeling of powerlessness not being able to fix the situation. When I came back I brought them to get ice-cream, take them on rides and stuff but they never smiled, not once. The nurses were loving it and were trying to get them into it but it just wasn't working. We went back to the bridge to watch the parade. It was there that I honestly saw true magic. Real magic, not bullshit. I had called the parade department to let them know what was going on and set up a private meet and greet after the parade. As the parade was coming around Liberty Square I told the girls that I had called Mickey and told him all about them. I told them that Mickey asked to meet them after the parade. The little girl in the wheelchair smiled. "Really?" she asked. My heart skipped. "Yes, really! He told me to tell you to look out for him in the parade and to follow the float back to City Hall." The other girl smiled. "You mean right now?" she asked. It had worked. They were talking. Not laughing, but talking. It was the first time I had heard them speak. Every single parade performer came up to them on the bridge and told them to look out for Mickey. Every one of them told them that. When Mickey's float came up Mickey (who was attached to a pole at the top of the float) managed to turn her body sideways, look down at the girls and point towards Main Street. That was all it took. The girls were excited now. They had forgotten about death. They were lost in a magical world and I couldn't believe I was watching it unfold in front of my eyes. We followed that float all the way back to City Hall, singing "Mickey Mania" the whole way. Back then, City Hall used to have a VIP lounge behind the desk that was for privacy during difficult situations or to host celebrities. I took them in and showed them the book where all of the autographs were. They were eating it up. The girl who was Mickey that day got down off her float and without even taking her head off walked up to me backstage and said "Let's go." I walked in with Mickey behind me so I got to see the exact moment the girls met their new friend. They got shy but Mikey was in control now. Those girls met the REAL Mickey Mouse that day. Every single parade character stayed dressed to meet those girls. One by one they'd come in and play a bit then leave. We were in that lounge for over an hour. Mickey stayed in costume the entire time (which is hard to do after a parade). When Mickey finally said goodbye I had two excited girls on my hands that couldn't stop smiling. They talked and talked and talked. We had a wonderful day after that but what I remember most is when we walked by the rose garden, the older one said "Oh, my mommy loves roses! I mean..." and she stopped. I held out my hand and walked her to the gate, picked her up and put her on the other side and said "Pick one!" She looked happy as she picked out her favorite rose. She didn't say anything more and she didn't need to. I said goodbye to the wonderful nurses and the wonderful girls then walked backstage behind the train station. This time I didn't cry. It felt so good to be a part of that. I realized that as much as I liked helping guests at City Hall, the true magic of Disney was in the character department. I auditioned, transferred and never looked back. Thanks for letting me relive this. It was a special day for me. [ Reply | More ]

We hired a guide last year for magic kingdom for three children three adults. Totally worth it, and honestly as long as the cost isn’t an issue I’m not sure you would want to do it any other way. It’s worth it to me just in time savings. No need to plan fast passes, study the ride times, crowd estimates, look at a map, etc. The guide plans everything for you based on your preferences. They hold all your belongings while you enjoy the rides, take pictures for you, run errands (eg grabbing coffee while you are on the ride to have when you get off, etc), and if you have child who wants a particular experience the others do not the guide will go along with them. For us it really made the day enjoyable and relaxing, which is tuff imagining at Disney. We go every year while the children are young and now have a hard time with the thought of not having a guide! That said, I do not believe a guide is worth it the same for the other parks. Maybe if it’s Christmas and very busy all around, but otherwise the other parks just are not expansive as Magic Kingdom. We do Epcot, Animal Kingdom on our own. We leave next month and will have a guide again and this time our focus will be on experiences that last year they were just a bit too small for. I think if your time is very valuable to you, and it’s a cost upgrade doesn’t impact your vacations bottom-line it’s worth arranging for you and your family. [ Reply | More ]

my in-laws paid for it and it's amazing especially if you are only there for a few days, saves tons of time waiting in lines and lots of frustration. Gets you good photo ops and stories. That said, the flip side is that for certain rides you can go into again and again there is No Down Time. No pausing. Things can occasionally get intense. Remember to breathe. [ Reply | More ]

No. I would never do this because I don't want my kids to skip the lines with the Make a Wish Foundation kids. It's an awful, entitled message, and yes, we have and earn millions. I was resourceful, I used fast pass, got more from concierge when we ran out (you can do this if you stay at a Disney property). One good tip is to head back into the park after dinner. Many leave post fireworks. We stayed and basically walked onto all the rides. Very few lines. Depends on the age of your kids- my youngest was three so we had au pair take him back to hotel and put him to sleep. Was perfect for then 8 & 10 year old. [ Reply | More ]

OR: Yes, that is my point. We may have/had an au pair, but my kids need to learn to wait in line just like everyone else. Just because their parents can pay for a guide doesn't mean it happens. And because my third was so far behind my other two having an au pair was nice so that I didn't have to stay back at the hotel room with my sleeping child. I could go back into the park with my older kids, walk around, do rides and wait in line with them while talking and spending time with them and my husband. [ Reply | More ]

Worth every last penny!!! We hire the independent guide at both World and Land and have had great experiences. It makes the day infinitely more fun for all involved. Do it!! [ Reply | More ]

My secret thought about people who do this is that it is for people who have more money than sense. People here talking about the "frustration of walking around lost" -- how hard is it read a map? They're like the easiest to read maps ever. There's also an app now that will tell you what's around and what the current wait times are. And people not wanting to stand in line and do it "efficiently" are missing the whole point. Disney rides aren't even that great. Lots of parks with better thrill rides. What fun there is spending time with family, wandering around and exploring -- not zipping in and out checking things off a list. [ Reply | More ]

I have been to DW on the most crowded days of the year (right before Christmas) and booked nothing in advance because we decided to go just the day before. There might be one or two lines that long during peak hours, and they're mostly thrill rides. You either fastpass them, go first thing in the morning or go later at night. Or you skip it because that one ride is not going to make or break the day. [ Reply | More ]
