I vacuum and wash my floors weekly, with a daily quick vacuum wherever I see crumbs, etc. I have a Hoover FloorMate hard floor cleaner and it never ceases to amaze me how dirty the water is that gets sucked into the tank. I have been using these machines for about 15 years so far. I would NEVER go back to using a mop again. It's obvious you're just swirling dirty water around on your floors and calling it clean. No, we don't wear shoes in the house. [ Reply | More ]

Well, I have standards, so some would probably say so. But I also work in a field where there's an expectation that you will pay hefty dues and be a martyr for the cause. And it's total bullshit because there's no "reward" for it at the end. I'm very happy in my current position, like my job and my company, and I've been here a long time so it seems to be mutual. I'm glad I held out, and make more money. But I've worked at places where the relationship would be defined as an abusive one if it had been interpersonal. [ Reply | More ]

This. I had a similar experience - realizing that A) the company really was a horrible, toxic mess and it was better for me to be gone, but B) I also was capable of doing much better work than I'd done there. Part of my issue was I disliked many people in management for good reasons but ended up being passive-aggressive and refusing to do certain tasks - all within my control to fix. You can and will find something better. Give yourself about a month to sulk a little bit and then start looking, giving yourself a fresh start. I have a much better job now. [ Reply | More ]
