Any drug store brand benzoyl peroxide acne treatment will kill the bacteria causing his acne. The trick is to make sure he puts the benzoyl peroxide solution on his face 24 hours a day. A light layer in the morning after washing his face, and a heavier layer at night. [ Reply | More ]

Almost everything OTC is a joke. Blue & red light therapy helped, but you have to be dedicated and you can't go with a cheap device. A lot of times with bad acne it's not a surface problem. It's something internal, like hormones. Just killing surface bacteria isn't going to cut it. In rare cases it's the symptom of some other problem. I turned out to have hyperthyroid and when that was taken care of, the raging acne stopped. That's probably not his problem, just saying that it's not always just a matter of bacteria or him being dirty. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Help me figure out what to do. Have been at the same employer for 13 years in several roles. Due to industry consolidation, there have been a handful of reorgs and mergers. Each time I've taken on a bigger job, there was no promotion tied to it. I approached my manager to discuss how I can get promoted or a salary adjustment, since I'm still compensated at a much junior level. She beat around the bush, said she'd talk to her supervisor, who promised nothing. I like my coworkers, like my job, but feel that I really got the short end of the stick. Short of quitting, is there anything else I can do to fix this? 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

It's like marriage, you can't make the other person do anything. You can only behave in your own best interests. If you get another job offer will they match the salary? I'd go that route because if they don't offer a match, you know what you're worth to them. [ Reply | More ]

Back about 10 years ago, I was in the exact same position as you are. I was doing the same work as people whose title had STARTING compensation at three times the amount I'd been making after being there for almost 8 years. I spoke to my boss about it, and she got me the correct title, and got my salary doubled. She expected me to be thrilled with that, but I pointed out it still was far below the "starting wage" for the position, per company guidelines. She said she had done her best. I found another job and moved on. I even gave them four weeks notice, instead of the customary two. Gave them every chance to make it right. But they didn't. In the end, I simply went on my merry way, was happy with the new place I was at, and I never looked back. [ Reply | More ]

You can order several sushi rolls, and for the vegetarians most sushi places have veggie rolls. Then get a huge thing of rice and maybe a couple of orders of salmon teriyaki and chicken teriyaki. [ Reply | More ]

NP, you can get vegetarian gyoza and sweet potato tempura which most non-vegetarians also like. [ Reply | More ]

I would get Greek/Mediterranean...skewers, dips, rice, pita etc. Lots of places, and lots of options for vegetarians. [ Reply | More ]

Check out Agata & Valentina - they're great and quite reasonbly priced. I'm on the UES and have used them to cater several dinner parties/large family gatherings with lots of compliments. Lots of different cuisine types and healthy-ish enough that you will have something for every palate. I'm sure they deliver to UWS too. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] PSA: An actual "low-income person" in NYC would buy jeans from one of those mom-and-pop stores where they have the bubble-butt mannequins outside, and they'll cost $20. Housewares come from what I like to call the "immigrant store" (because I am an immigrant and that's where we bought everything) that sell everything from luggage to curtains to socks to detergent to school supplies. National brand stores are places you only go to at sale time, even places like Old Navy. $50 is a LOT of money--you might buy something for that much at Christmastime when your mom buys you something you really, really want (like a pair of Nikes or Timberlands from VIM). 17 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I don't agree with the ON part though, they have so many deals that you can easily score jeans there for 19.99, it is hard to find stuff much cheaper anywhere [ Reply | More ]

You're wrong, actually. Not about the 19.99 jeans part--this is true during a sale (like i said) But there are ways to get things much, much cheaper around NYC. I used to buy work clothes from hole-in-wall places in chinatown--dresses for $5 and such. [ Reply | More ]

When I was in my 20s I was trying on some sale stuff at the JCrew in SoHo. A couple of tween girls were there with a mom and she said "You can only spend up to $80 each--no more." I was flabbergasted--I was 25 with a job and no way was I going to spend $80! This is still kind of my mindset. [ Reply | More ]

Some of these posters are actually not that rich though - they remind me of the SATC episode where Carrie had shoes but not $$ for a downpayment. Some of the low income ground (immigrants) will save a lot more and be able to buy property a lot sooner than the 'Old Navy is junk!' crowd. [ Reply | More ]
